Back to school season is upon us, which means you are getting ready to send your little tot to preschool for the first time — and you’re most likely a little panicky. (How can your child be a preschooler already?!) Rest assured, Kidstown Learning Center has the best preschool education in all of Lake Worth and we will care for and nurture your child, while helping them grow into smart kindergarteners. Our teachers at Kidstown Learning Center are dedicated to fostering a love for learning in your child by making learning fun and stress free, which is why we have compiled some of our best back-to-school tips to set the foundation for a successful school year.
Read Books About Going To School
Help your child prepare for their first day by reading books about the first day of school and saying goodbye. Choose books with your child’s favorite character to help get them excited about following in their footsteps and starting their preschool education. By reading stories, your child can get a better idea about what to expect on their first day so there are no surprises. Here are some of our favorite back-to-school books for preschoolers:
The Night Before Preschool by Natasha Wing
First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg
Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney
The Pout-Pout Fish Goes To School by Deborah Diesen
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn
Meet The Teacher
Help your child relieve some anxiety about their first day of preschool by scheduling a tour of Fort Worth’s Kidstown Learning Center. A scheduled tour will allow your child to get familiar with the school grounds and meet their teacher, which will help them feel more comfortable in their new surroundings when they are dropped off on their first day.
Who doesn’t like a friend alongside them on a new and scary adventure? If possible, arrange playdates with kids who you know will be in the same class so they can get acquainted with one another and have each other for support on their first day.
When your child starts preschool, they will no longer have you by their side to pick up their backpack, hang up their jackets, throw away their paper plates, etc. Preschool is all about teaching your child to be self-sufficient. To help with the transition, we suggest you begin promoting independence at home. Set higher expectations for your preschooler and watch as your child rises to it — preschoolers can do a lot more than we give them credit for!
Get Into A Routine
During the summer, it’s easy to slip out of a routine. Bedtimes are more lax and there is no sense of urgency to get anywhere in the early morning — but that all changes once the school year begins. You can help make the transition smoother by getting your child adjusted to an early bedtime and wake-up routine before their first day of school. Because, let’s face it, waking up can be difficult.
We hope these back-to-school tips help make your child’s first day of preschool education a success! If you have any questions about our Lake Worth preschool education program, don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to an amazing school year of helping your child learn and grow.
